FAQ

What is the difference between an Indie Film and a Foreign Language Film?

A film made independently is typically done by one filmmaker, who makes all the decisions.

A foreign language film, on the other hand is usually produced by a larger production crew.

They often hire actors, writers, and directors from other countries.

So that the dialogue sounds natural, they also employ professional translators.

How much of the box office revenue goes to marketing budgets

Marketing budgets account for approximately 20% to 40% of film budgets. This is because marketing plays a vital role in any film's success.

Without effective marketing, no one will be able to find out about your film. Without knowing about your film, no one wants to pay to see it.

How many films does Hollywood make in a given year?

Hollywood studios produce around 3,000 films per year. That's right, three thousand!

These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions to produce them. And they spend millions promoting them. But how many do you think actually end up getting released into theaters?

Most likely, the answer is around 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ other films? Well, most are either made as direct-to-video releases, or they just sit there gathering dust in storage vaults.

Some of them may not be seen. Some of them are available for distribution via Netflix and Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or iTunes, Google Play, and others.

Hence, why aren't there more of them? Why aren't they released in theaters? Because they're too expensive to produce.

If they were more affordable to produce they would be released into theaters.

This is where I come in. I will help you find the best possible way to release your film in theaters.

I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.

Because let's face it...

It can be hard to get your film into the theaters. The process is long, complex and full of legalities.

You may end up spending a lot of money before you get started.

The time frame in which your film can be distributed is also very limited.

There's not enough time between the moment a film is completed and its theatrical debut.

Why are there so few independent films that get released?

Indie filmmakers often assume that distributors will pick up their films.

Because they love the work, distributors will likely buy their films.

But this is rare. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.

They may delay a film's release until after the awards season is over.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors are also trying to keep films off the streets until audiences have already spent hundreds upon thousands of dollars on tickets or popcorn.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

Are Hollywood and the film industry the largest?

Why is Hollywood calling it Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith founded the first film industry in California in 1887. It was named in honor of its Los Angeles location, known at the time as "Hollywood".

The name stuck because it was such an exciting place for people to visit. People would travel all the way from other countries to see what was happening.

Today, Hollywood is still very much part of our culture. There are movies, TV shows, music videos and commercials. And we call them all "Hollywood."

How To

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be eligible for the HWOF, the artist must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce any balance. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
